What alcohol does
Alcohol enhances GABA and suppresses glutamate, slowing the nervous system. With heavy, regular use, the brain adapts; stopping abruptly can cause dangerous withdrawal.
Withdrawal—what to know (ranges by history/health)
Early (6–12h): tremor, anxiety, headache, nausea, sweating, restlessness, insomnia, elevated pulse.
Moderate (12–48h): worsening tremor, agitation, vomiting, high BP/HR; withdrawal seizures can occur 12–48h.
Severe (48–96h): risk of delirium tremens (DTs)—confusion, fever, hallucinations, severe autonomic instability—a medical emergency.
Even after acute symptoms resolve, sleep/mood issues may linger (post-acute).
When telehealth is OK vs. not
Sobio is outpatient. If you drink heavily daily, have a history of seizures/DTs, major medical conditions, or are pregnant, seek medically supervised detox first. We can support after stabilization.
How Sobio helps
Therapist-led care focusing on cut-down/abstinence plans, craving strategies, social/routine redesign, and relapse-prevention.
Daily coach check-ins to keep commitments tiny and consistent.
Monitoring tools (sleep, mood, craving logs) and reviews every 2–4 weeks.
Collaboration with your PCP or local clinicians if medication-assisted approaches (e.g., naltrexone, acamprosate) are being considered by your provider.
